Medical reports have shown that one of the most common health problems children face is tooth decay. Children’s diet of sugars and starches is a major cause for cavities and tooth decay. Combine this factor with poor oral hygiene and we know why tooth decay is a major problem.
The future development and health of a child’s smile starts with the teething process. Parents can help the teething progress of their children in numerous ways; this includes, using teething ointment (ask us about the best ones) for massaging the gums of their child, or using a wet washcloth.
To ensure the health and beauty of child’s smile, you should follow these procedures:
Baby Teeth Cleaning- After every bottle or meal, clean your baby’s teeth with a washcloth or gauze. When more than one tooth has erupted use an age-appropriate tooth brush (we can instruct you on what to purchase) with warm water and a pea-sized amount of toothpaste. Babies should have their teeth brushed after the intake of medicine due to the acid in the medicine that can eat away enamel.
Visiting a dentist prior to their first birthday.
Using dental sealants to prevent tooth decay – call or contact us to learn more about the proper sealants.
Flossing on a daily basis – when two teeth erupt adjacent to each other, a parent should assist their child with flossing.
Mouth Washing – after the age of seven, children should start using mouth wash.
Orthodontics – a visit to the orthodontist after the age of 7 will guarantee the health and beauty of child’s smile.
